Crush is Over

It's been a fun season of crushing and pressing grapes but it has now come to an end. The past few weeks have been filled with long days, purple-stained clothes and sticky floors but now all the 2009 wines are in stainless tanks finishing up the last stages of fermentation. 2009 is turning out to be a great vintage, with all the wines tasting great and having great color in the reds. We are making a few new wines this year as well. From our 33 acres we got our first harvest of Malbec grapes. This is also our first year making Petite Sirah and we increased the amount of Tempranillo and Muscat Blanc that we crushed. These wines have a long road ahead of them before bottling but it looks like they are going to be some great ones. Here is a photo of John explaining our new crusher-destemmer (what a dream machine!) and a load of Viognier grapes waiting to be pressed.
