Our Crew on the Bottling Line

 

At the winery today we bottled our extremely popular “Touch of Red” and the masses will go wild.  We have been out for a while and our club members have been clamoring for more.  We find the taste of strawberry really comes out and make this wine an extremely fun and drinkable adult beverage.  Our bottling crew is made up of musicians, experienced wine makers, retired IT Professionals and a linguist.  When we bottle wine we have a fun time and some of the fun seems to slip into the bottle along with the wine.  With Valentines day around the corner this wine would be a great way to end your meal with cheesecake with strawberries or strawberry shortcake.

Great Adventures with BookCliff Vineyards

So far, this year has been a great adventure into 2015! We at BookCliff Vineyards took a trip to South America at the end of January and spent some time in beautiful Chile and Argentina! The wines were absolutely wonderful. We tried some Carmenere in Santa Cruz and had plenty of Malbec and Torrontes in Mendoza.What blew me away are the palace- like wineries built in the wine regions! These facilities are absolutely magnificent and built to hold 100's of guests at one time! To name a few, Catena Zapata, Finca Agostino, Bodegas Salentein, The Vines of Mendoza, Vina Cobos, Susana Balboa, Casa Silva and Casa Lapostolle. The architectural thought process put into these facilities are beyond sublime. The wines showcased were beautiful and we couldn't have asked for better hospitality! Going to South America anytime soon? Be sure to check these wineries out- you won't be disappointed!

Happy Holidays

Colorado is an amazing state to live in. One day we have warm, sunny temperatures of 60 degrees F and the next it falls to -2 degrees F and snow just in time for a White Christmas! Now we are back into the 20's F and if there's one thing consistent about CO, that would be the brilliant sunshine we receive! We are so lucky to be living in a beautiful area. BookCliff Vineyards is practicing some new techniques this winter to insulate the grapevines. John and Ulla made a visit down to Palisade to work with our Vineyard Manager, Prescott, on laying down the vines and covering them with hay. Our goal is to keep them warm to survive the cold winter! BookCliff is looking forward to 2015 and we can't wait to kickoff the New Year with some upcoming dinners with local Chefs, here at the winery! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Wine and Women Series

This Sunday kicks off the first part of BookCliff Vineyards Wine and Women Series. We are pleased to have Master Sommelier, Sally Mohr, as our guest. She will be talking about wine choices for the upcoming holiday season and how to pair wine with your Thanksgiving dinner! Escoffier visits BookCliff Vineyards

BookClliff Vineyards was happy to host the students from Escoffier School of Culinary Arts for an afternoon of Winery Harvest education! They were able to see grape juice fermenting into wine and finished wine getting pressed off. John talked about crush and all aspects of the winemaking process. After the tour, everyone (over 21) was able to taste the wine made from our own Colorado grapes. We certainly enjoyed having you and being a part of your education!

Colorado Mountain Winefest

What a beautiful weekend it turned out to be in Palisade for the annual Colorado Mountain Winefest. We hosted a farm to table dinner Friday night, then was up early with the roosters on Saturday morning, setting up for Winefest! Thank you to everyone who attended the weekend with us! We loved having you and enjoyed getting to spend more time with you! Eric and Jill with BlackCat put on a beautiful dinner! Ask anyone who was there and they'd say the same. The weather was absolutely perfect the entire weekend and if you missed going this year, sign up for our newsletter to receive updates for the upcoming dinners and next year's winefest dinner. Now, we are back in Boulder, ready to receive fruit this week from the vineyards in Palisade. Muscat Blanc and Viognier have already started fermenting in the tanks and we can't wait to get the other varietals into the cellar! We hope everyone had a great weekend as well! Cheers!

Farmers Market Week

There are still so many great events to attend before the Summer is over! Come out and celebrate National Farmers' Market Week, Sunday August 3rd - Saturday August 9th! You will be able to find locally grown agricultural products and participate in yoga, farm tours, dinners, goat cheese workshops and taste locally made cheese, wine, gelato and more!
  On August 4th, enjoy an evening of yoga, followed by a glass of BookCliff Vineyards wine and a tour of the Oxford Gardens. Black Cat Restaurant will be hosting a farm-to-table dinner on August 5th. Red Wagon Organic Farms, Cure Organic Farm and Haystack Mountain Goat Cheese will be hosting events as well!

BookCliff Vineyards at the Big Eat Denver 2014

If you are looking for a great, foody event then search no longer, but go straight to the next event organized by Eat Denver eatdenver.com, representing independent restaurants in Denver, Colorado. They know how to put a big bash on. All the great restaurants in Denver show up, often times the chef dazzeling you with the best bites. They also serve local wine and beer and BookCliff Vineyards was the wine of choice all evening. This years event was held at The Galleria of the Denver Performing Arts Center and was an evening affair starting at 7:30pm. If you missed out this time, keep an eye on their calendar for their next event Harvest Week with fabulous harvest dinners every night of the weekend. As usual BookCliff Vineyards will be part of the party. See you then.

Vineyard Irrigation

BookCliff Vineyards is excited to irrigate with the new microsprinkler system! The system is our latest addition and hangs in-line with the vines, about 18 inches from the ground, providing water below the canopy. This type of irrigation system is replacing the original surface irrigation furrows used throughout the vineyards. Our soils are categorized as sandy loam, clay. The microsprinklers will ensure efficient water penetration, allow for cover crop flexibility and help drive salts away from the vines’ root zones. Salts carry Potassium up the vine system, a result from the furrow system, which resulted in higher pH in the fruit; the microsprinklers will help balance the acid and sugar levels in the grapes by pushing salts away. Having the ability to plant cover crops, such as clover, is satisfying, knowing the soils are being provided with enough Nitrogen, which is important for the health of the vineyards. Sprinkler systems are often used for cooling and frost/freeze protection, which will hopefully increase fruit production, as Colorado has experienced winter frosts and crop damage. Overall, I think this is a great investment for Colorado’s grapes and we hope to see progress in the vineyards! Cheers!

Taste of Pearl 2014

Taste of Pearl 2014 is right around the corner! On April 13th, stroll along Pearl Street in Downtown Boulder and explore the many different foods and wines offered! This is a fun time of the year to enjoy beautiful pieces of art, while tasting new recipes and trying new wines being bottled from past vintages. Tickets are sold at Taste of Pearl.

This event received the Governor's Award for Downtown Excellence- Best Promotional Event by Downtown Colorado in 2011 and honored with a Merit Award from the International Downtown Association in 2013. Purchase your tickets today and come hang out with us this year!
