Ulla & John at Wholefoods - Celebrating the Local

Wholefoods is celebrating small local producers and invited the owners for a photo shoot to their local store. The owners/vendors added to the buzz in the produce department where the photographer took the pictures in front of the produce. If was fun meeting other owners that we see regularly at the farmers markets in Boulder and Vail. As the Boulder store sells alcoholic beverages we mingled with corn, salad dressing, ice cream and other booze. It was fun to be the celebrity for the day.

BookCliff at Three Leaf Farm

We had a lovely time at the Three Leaf Farm dinner in Lafayette. The farm is a gem tugged away at the South edge of Lafayette, next to 287; but you would never guess as you are charmed by all the farm animals (horses, goats and chicken) and the rows of prospering vegetables. The theme of the dinner was mushrooms to stay with the season. Every course introduced new flavors and showcased the versatility of mushrooms including the dessert with a mushroom meringue and surrounded by mushroom dust. The brisket and the Wellington portabella mushroom was a perfect pairing with the BookCliff Vineyards Cabernet Franc Reserve 2012.

Looking ahead to the 4th of July weekend, do you have all your meals planned? BookCliff Vineyards Winery can provide a few fun suggested libations for your BBQ! Grilled meats always beg for some dark fruity reds with light tannins, such as Cabernet Franc. Spicy BBQ sauce always marries well with sweet style wines, such as Riesling or our Touch of Red Rose. What will you be having at your cookout this weekend?

Merlot in Bloom at BookCliff Vineyards

Most people are not aware that grapes bloom, let alone what they look like. It is a rare sight, as just for one week in late spring the tip of the grape clusters burst into tiny yellow flowers emanating a sweet smell. This year is especially magnificent as the cluster in particular of the Merlot grapes are almost twice the size of usual. I was fortunate to visit the vineyard in Palisade this week and snapped a picture. Enjoy!

Radish Fest at Longmont Farmers Market and BookCliff Vineyards

BookCliff Vineyards is participating in the Radish Fest at the Longmont Farmers Market. Yes, radish and wine pairing. With some research, both personal taste test and Internet search the conclusion is that you want to serve a white wine, slightly sweet with your radish dish. I recommend to adjust the sweetness level depending how spicy the radish is. Some radishes can be really spicy, especially if you have stored it for a week in your fridge. The spicier the radish the sweeter you want to go with your wine. Friday's Folly White is a good start for less spicy and Riesling for a spicy radish. Enjoy!!
Check out flatbread with radishes and goat cheese pairings.
